UQ Idea, Insultex and Unknown Quality/Source Down

So I have this idea bouncing around in my head and wanted to see what you other DIY'rs thought. I ordered some Insultex from BWDD and was thinking of a layered system.

    From the Bottom

DownProof fabric of some type perhaps with some water repellence ability
    Insultex 1 Layer
Down of some type salvaged from a Goodwill type store blanket
    Downproof fabric of some type.

I am unsure of what pattern I will thread inject it together at this point.

    Ideas? Comments?

    IX

    bg,

I have used the layer combination you are proposing and think the IX adds to the warmth factor. Used in a underquilt, IX is also well worth using.

However, I used the IX on the side against me in the top quilt, and, it would have been better on the differential cut side, with the IX towards the outside. The IX layered towards the outside cover would have made the quilt resistant to moisture from condensation inside the hammock. As it is, sometimes the drips seep into the quilt, and it gets damp. With the IX on the outside layer, the down would not get wet in spots.

Also, down from recycled household items may not be quality down, and instead contain a percentage of 'feathers', which could be heavier, and not compress well for backpacking.
Since I retired, some times I stay awake all day, some times all night.

    Question The down.

I have already tested the compression and even with the heavy blanket material it was made with it compressed down to approx the size of my down sleeping bag.

Thanks for the info on the layering.
