Gear Hammock And Underquilts?

I am planning on hanging either a gear hammock or a clothes line from my hammock in this way. The clothes line will be protected by my tarp and make it easy to dry thing out while it is raining.

HE... i just added a picture in the "tips & tricks" gallery under "accessory line".
i`ve used this meathod quite a few times & it works great for gear hammock, water bag, etc, as well as a place to let your wet rain gear drip dry under the tarp.
the trick is getting the set-up lines orginized in a way that it`s easy to put up & adjust.
i made a really small sack (mabey 3" deep) that i put over the top of the treking pole. it has the lines permanantly attached & i store the lines in the sack when not being used.
i belive it weighs about one oz. ...tim

That's a great idea. I really like that. As soon as I can get out I am going to try that.

I don't use a gear hammock. My internal frame pack has an attached pack cover. I take what I need for the night into my HH, the rest stays in my pack. I hang that from the tree huggers on the foot end and cover it with the pack cover.

thanks jeff... i`m still a little sloooow on the computer skills. i switched back to Internet explorer after using firefox for a while, & lost one of the tool bars w/ some of the basic stuff on it (like the edit thing you click on to copy & paste). at least i`ll use that as an excuse for now<g>.
man... i`m pretty lame when it comes to some of the basic computer stuff.
once i actually figure out how to do something it`s not a problem.
i need to get one of my friends to come over & walk me through a few things. ...tim

Interesting pic. I am thinking that after getting the gearskin, I may not need a gear hammock. All of my stuff is going to be in stuff sacks. I can hang these sacks from either my ridgeline or a line under my hammock. As long as everything is off the ground I should be fine. Really after my food is hung and my hammock set up, there is not much left. I usually use my clothes bag underneath my knees in the hammock.

Here's an idea I had on an easy mod of the Gear Hammock. By adding a ~2 foot peice of 3/4" webbing and a buckle to the middle of one of the long sides, essentially adding a compression strap, you would be able to roll the GH up and strap it closed. This would allow you to hang between the tree and the hammock without having to worry about things getting wet and no chance of messing with the underquilt. This strap could also be used to help secure the GH to a pack when using it as a rain cover.

Kind hard to explain so I drew a picture. Hope it helps. Comments welcome.
