    Silinylon for quilts

Anyone used a home made silinylon quilt?

Having read as much of the forum as practical, and thinking about vapor barriers etc, what about making a quilt with silinylon on the inside to work as a VB. The outside layer could be either breathable or silinylon, as no moisture should be getting out from inside - one would use whatever was lightest, unless there was a risk of the outer getting wet.

In cold weather, that would work well to protect the insulation from moisture and keep the humidity around you like you want.

In warm/hot weather, it would lock the moisture next to you and you may end up laying in a puddle.

Ugh. Makes me squirm in discomfort just thinking about it.

I would never use a VB above 20F.

I made a quilt like this and it works great but I don't sweat much.

Are you talking about the pillowcase you made for the original Yeti? If so, I can attest to its virtues. I used it comfortably and I'm a very warm sleeper (I sweat easy). Course, being a 'case' instead of an integrated layer may have allowed it to breath just enough.

if your going to try this i would only make the top side out of Sil...
and the side against you out of ripstop...
It puts the Underquilt on it's hammock ... It does this whenever it gets cold

yeah, that's the same one. it could be useful for wind, of course, a big tarp might be a better option for many. would certainly be useful for those camping in winter with a minimal tarp.
