    Enough coverage ?

Well the countdown is of 17 days till the 100 mile NCT hike this is my longest hike to date. I am up in air what to pack as in tarp I am trying to keep my weights low , but in same token blowing rain has a mind of it's own. I have a OES MacCat standard I just bought and will use with UQ protector from ZQ/2Q to protect my UQ and block wind or should I pack the extra 15 oz and take the crown jewel the superfly with doors. It's not like I will have the oppertunity to swing past the jeep and grab it along the trail. Whats the thoughts from people with long trail exspirience . Thanks

With La Nina and the weather the last two months in the East, i'll take coverage and protection any day of the week.

Take the MacCat, you'll be as dry as lint from the dryer.

The SuperFly and all the other winter tarps were designed with winter in mind. Rain had long since been taken care of with tarps like the MacCat line. I've personally been through many storms under my Standard MacCat and haven't gotten wet. The doors are great for keeping out cold air, but not necessary to stay dry. Save the weight and spend a few extra seconds thinking about where you camp.

    Or travel in luxury.

Which kind of hiker do you want to be this week?
Isn't it great to have to choose between gear?!

No long trail experience, but, I would rather go with one tarp, with doors, than a tarp & a UC, as you are looking at 2 pieces of gear vs. one. Thats my opinion though

I was leery when I went from the superfly to a smaller tarp. My opinion... you have some time and hopefully some rain will hit before then. Test it out in the rain to give you more comfort.

Brian wouldn't sell something that wouldn't give you the protection that you require from the rain.

this from a total hammock nob...i would think you'd have good enough coverage with just the std fly AND the uq protector...of course the weather where you're camping will have the finale word. it seems, the list of hiking trails have expanded expontially since i was doing any real hiking (then again, it might just be that on the net information has done the growning). please forgive me for asking but, what is the" NCT"?

Thanks folks I am going to be brave and go with the Standard and leave the big gun at home. Worse scenario I got to get up and re hang in opposite direction.

Or one option would be to get a removable door (grizz beak or the like) and use your rain jacket (or packa or whatever) on the other side of the hammock, and take the Maccat???
Just a option that would still be lighter than the Superfly!

My go to tarp is a smaller one and I really dig it. Keeps me really dry and really happy with it.
