    How to minimize the wind

So last night I went out to test some gear in the back yard and the wind was blowing and gusting from 10-30 mph. I wound up going into the house about 4:30 a.m. because my tarp was making so much noise and the walls kept banging into the hammock. The doors were shut thght and I had the tarp pulled out as far as I could get it without compromising the doors.

Is there a correct way to set up a tarp to minimize these problems? Do I need to add pullouts on the sides, and would this even help at these the wind speeds?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you were in the field looking for a spot with a wind-break would be the best option. Sometimes I like my door end into the wind....the sides are like a sail!

Pull-outs help me immensely......that is why I like' em so...... they have served me well in some strong winds.

Thanks. Sound like another DIY project.

I had the hammock set up so that it caught the corner of the tarp and the door, but the wind changed directions and came from the side, after I climbed in.

I feel like panel tie outs are essential for bigger tarps. I even have one per side on my fairly small maccat standard. Kind of rediculous, but the tarp doesn't end up on my face from strong winds.

I don't tie them out tight to give more room like I would my superfly, just enough so the wind doesn't make a sail of my tarp.

Is there a recommended size or diameter for the pull-outs? I don't want to make things worse with a hole in the side of my tarp

Shug, I noticed that the sewn part of the grossgrain isn't centered on the patch, but the top of the grossgrain seems to line up with the centerline of the patch. Is there a reason for that? Perhaps because the force of your shockcord is coming from the downward direction? I'm adding tie-outs to the sides of my tarp and could use some technical advice.

I don't see any sealer on the outside. Did you seam seal them on the inside?
