    time to make more whoopie

I made my 1st whoopies, and when I went to test hang, well, there really was no hang. I'm not sure what I was thinking.... the shortest the whoopies can go is 6', so the hammock was dragging the ground. Going to make shorter whoopies tonight.

Did I do something wrong? I would have to pick trees that were 20' apart to get a good hang.

What size did you start with? To get 6' slings I tend to start out with 12.5' of amsteel (lets me do two slings and a adjustable ridgeline with 40') and that works out well for me.

hey ladybird! here's a link to a thread with a handy excel spreadsheet for calculating whoopie sling measurments. the spreadsheet may look complicated at first, but just read (reread and reread in my case) the instructions and play around with the variables. in the linked thread you'll also find a link to samson's whoopie sling instructions.

hopefully you'll find this helpful. perhaps you can repurpose your super long whoopies as adjustable ridgelines? just a thought. if not, i'm sure you'll salvage them somehow. plus, making whoopie is always fun!

A pic would help. When I made mine, I had the adjustable bury 1" off the tail of the locked brummel. Smallest length is around 2', maybe less...

    Pictures would definitely help.

I guessing all you need to do is pull the adjustable bury out of the constrictor and move the bury/constrictor closer to the fixed eye/hammock end as JohnS described. You may need to cut off a few inches of the loose adjusting tail if you thickened it.

oh. no pics are really going to help, I just started with a really long rope. They came out great, but underestimated what I needed. Remade them last night and now I have the size I need. Instead of a wire, all I could find was a peice of this rubber string that kids make into bracelets. Super light, and stiff enough to push through the center of the amsteel. I think I'll bring it on any hike and some extra length of amsteel...just in case.
