It will vary with where you plan to hang and how long your tree straps are. I have 6 footers and 8 footers and they have always been long enough for me .I Never usually a prob to find trees that are the right distance apart and the ground doesn't matter that much. Just sayin.
I like refried beans. That's why I wanna try fried beans, because maybe they're just as good and we're just wasting time. You don't have to fry them again after all.

most people make them 6-8 feet long, kinda depends on the application some and how close your trees are where your going to be hanging

I use ~6 footers but you can go as large or small as you want. To make 6 foot whoopie slings I start with ~14ft of Amsteel and I make my main bury 8-10 inches long. As for the fixed loop, I use a ~2 inch locked brummel with a 6-8 inch bury. I think my whoopies actually meausre 5 1/2 feet when fully extended so if you really want them to be 6 feet you will need to start with ~14 1/2-15 feet of Amsteel. Hope that helps and HYOH.

I use dynaglide slings. I start with 25 feet, cut that in half giving me 12.5 feet of line for each sling. With dynaglide the buries only have to be about 6 inches, combine that with a 1 inch locked brummel, that gives you approximately 6 foot slings. I combine that with 5-6 foot huggers, and I am good to go.

    from the hammock

    1 inch fixed loop
    6 inch bury
    6 inch adjustment bury
adjustable loop to straps and toggle

toggle can be placed anywhere on the strap as long as there is enough length after wrapping the tree.

I haven't done this, but in theory you could get almost 20 feet total line on each end of the hammock after wrapping the tree (if my math is correct, it's too late at night to be sure). Thats a lot!

I get between 5.5 and 6 feet starting with 15' of cord. Same 6"-8" total worth of cord for the locked brummel eye and a 10" adjustable bury

Hmmmm I must have the longest slings here. Mine are 12' 6" fully extended. Its cool knowing I can hang from trees that are over 30' apart. Have I ever done this? Nope. These slings are way overkill. Im only 5'8" and there is no way I can reach high enough in the tree to hang between trees 30' apart. I know I tried. Butt was dragging on the ground. These were my first slings and I just cant find it in my heart to cut them down to a reasonable size. Now that I have some more amsteel I think my next set will be 8'.

I'm doing around 6'. I start off with 25' per set which makes them 5'9" each. I've never came close to using all the legnth but I also carry some amsteel extenders, two 5' piece.

I have6 footers.... was thinking about this the other and recon that I wouldn't be able to get them high enough on the trees if the trees were further apart that the maximum span they offer...to get the right hang.

14' feet raw material - For the locked brummel on 7/64, I marked 2 fids at 4.5", and then 8" inches after that for the loop (4" inch loop), then bury the 2 fids. For the adjustable loop, 10" busy, which reduces to about 8.5" once burried. Works great.

You will find a common theme here - sixes! 6' foot whoopie and 6' foot straps.
