Thumbs up Coosa Backcountry Trail, NE GA 2/23-2/24

I missed a great opportunity to hike this weekend due to my family having the flu. So long as the bug doesn't bite me, at least myself and possibly Reeper are going to try to conquer the CBT out of Vogel State Park next weekend.

Tentative meet time will be 9:15 AM at Vogel State Park. Anyone interested jst post in this thread and we will plan from there. Thanks!

I hiked that back when we used to live in Alpharetta in the early 90's. It was great (even though I didn't hang back then, and used to routinely carry a 50 lb pack, even for overnights - young and stupid!). Have a good time John!

That is a 12 miles loop trail with a lot of climbs mixed in, how many miles are you planning on hiking each day?

You are right, it is actually listed at just under 13 miles. It could be done in one day, but why try to kill yourself, right? I think I would try the same approach that Skids and TwoSpeed from White Blaze (whom I was supposed to go with this weekend) were trying. Counter Clockwise hike to Wildcat Gap on day 1 (I think about 7.5 miles). Then finish up on Sunday. The toughest climbs are on day 2 if you hike it counter clockwise.

I'm game after work on Saturday. Reeper filled me in on the details. Sounds like fun.

Yeah, its gonna be fun I think. I was hoping to get a few more hangers on this one. In fact the CBT would make for a good trail to have a Georgia Hangers Ruck or Hang or whatever you wanted to call it.

I'm going. Meeting up at Winton's shop at Neels Gap? I'll be wearing my orange hat.
