Guide Gear tarp - no thread injector

Just got a couple Guide Gear tarps from the BO.

I was thinking of adding a few extra nylon attachment points to the center of each side like most have done - so I can hang it straight (vs on the diagonal). But I don't have a thread injector.

Is modifying these tarps by hand recommended? Anyone done it by hand?

I'm not a tailor by any stretch. About all I've done with a needle and thread in the past is reattach buttons on shirts.

I figure it's not too much sewing... also - I'm assuming I should reinforce the attachment points with something, but what?

I think you can do it by hand if you have the time. Another option might be to buy those grip clips from a place like JRB.

Use 1.1 nylon ripstop. Does not have to be coated or pregnated with silicone.

Grip CLips are good to add tie outs to the center of a tarp.
They can also be used to add tie outs to the edge of a tarp.
But, I wanted to point out almost every hardware store or even WM has a clip you can add to the edge of a tarp. Not as good as sewing a loop, but more readily available than grip clips if you just want to hang it to play around with.

Take some GG and pre-cut triangles of ripstop to your local dry cleaners... They often do repairs and alterations.

I'd bet This would be really cheap...

Find a local lady that does alterations. They are usually resonable and will give you quotes before sewing.

Here's a post from Detail Man on a NO SEW method for adding tarp pullouts using silicone to glue the patches on. He got very good, surprisingly strong results:
