I haven't been out much but I have the explorer deluxe with the hex fly upgrade (my super fly!). The fly is huge, great coverage. Almost to much..... Almost. I love my deluxe though, considered removing the bed and hanging up the hammocks (my wife has one too. She loves it!)
The woods are lovely, dark and deep.....

@ Rosaleen: I think you are expressing the difference between a camper and a trekker. A trekker moves more or less all day and (just) needs somewhere to sleep comfortably. The Adventure racer at ca. 1 1/2 lb may the the ideal. Lounging around camp - well a 6lb+ safari with hex tarp may be the ideal (or if you have a pack mule).
Budweiser's Clydesdales are wonderful horses, but one wouldn't ask then to run in the Derby.
I have the PU coated hex tarp for base camping, but I will be making a silnylon asym diamond for backpacking. The "best" choice of any equipment depends on how it will be used.

I would be very interested in your perspective on the different models, Rosaleen ......

Also ..... What was so different about the adventure racer model

I've used Hennessys for over 10 years and am quite happy with the stock fly. To me, it isn't worth the extra weight to go bigger than I need. Yes, as someone noted, the PU tarps are heavier than silnylon ones.

The DeepJungle and pad will prevent mosquitoes from biting through the fabric bottom, but so should the tight weave of the UL. Permethrin also helps, as does any closed cell pad. I have some hammocks with which Tom rewarded me with for helping him and which I can sell at a discount. PM me if you are interested.
