WBRR Suspension Selection

I am looking at picking up a Ridgerunner but, am not sure about all of the suspension choices.

I have a Traveler with webbing and buckles and like it though I wish it could be disconnected from the hammock for separate storage after rain.

I tried the whoopies on a BBXL but, didn't care for them. They seemed to stretch a bit.

I am not familiar with their Becket options.

I already have Dutchware straps with Dutch hooks. These are fast and convenient but, are bulky.

I need whatever I choose, to be reasonably light and not too bulky.

Thoughts?

For the lightest, least bulky option, I'd probably consider the new Dynaweave Becket straps from Warbonnet. Using the supplied continuous loops on the Ridgerunner, you could just tie your Becket hitch directly to those. The straps have a loop at one end, so you can use them with your Dutch clips or skip the hardware altogether and just thread the working end of the strap through the sewn loop at the tree.

I use the Anchor Hooks from a few years ago. I think I have been using them for about five years. Light and simple.

I have a Ridgerunner and tried other suspensions but came back to the original straps as it is just easy and nothing to lose. For the wet strap issue I use these sap sacks and they work great.

Unless you are really good/experienced/lucky you will probably not get the hammock suspension distance/height right the first time - hence the need for adjustment. Tying things is secure, BUT it requires untying them to make adjustments. I use daisy chains for their simplicity. But I'll readily admit there are times with the steps between links are too long. So I carry a pair of Amsteel dog bones that let me cut the link distance in half. It is amazing that only a three inch differential can make a difference between, "Okay" and "Ahhhhh".

Someday I may switch back to webbing. I've tried Whoopies - they have too much "extra distance" overhead. And I've used two rings with the Hennessy line. For simplicity and complete adjustability, I'd go with webbing - or daisy chain (a bit heavier then webbing if you are counting oz.).

Got my RR a few days ago and finally got to play with it tinight, in the dark while it was snowing...any way, the Becket Hitch suspension is fantastic. Simple, light and fast. Thanks again.

Indeed. I'm a relatively new hammocker, only about 3 years, but I've never used anything else other than the brief time with an Amok and its built in suspension. Using a becket hitch makes you scratch your head why you'd want anything more complicated, but to each his own! I have played with different straps and prefer 1" kevlar straps to anything else. My entire suspension fits in the tiny 5th pocket of a pair of jeans
