ENO tarps

i got the ENO Fast Fly (mostly because it didn't cost me anything). after reading it seems as though there is some doubt as to the either the quality or coverage of ENO rain flys. anyone got any bad exsperiances with them?

most of what i've read is in comparison to the rain flys made by a lot of the cottage brands, i realize that you probably get a better product from cottage brand guys because they have the exsperiances and know what we want, but when it comes down to keeping mother nature off of your hammock, is there any particular thing wrong with ENO's flys??

FastFly should be as good at protecting you from the rain as any diamond tarp. The issue (I think) was with the DryFly in particular. The cuts are too extreme and anything other than rain falling straight down is rumored to be a problem.

You didn't get the 'bad' one...life is good!

thanks cannibal, i was scratching my head this weekend cause i set up the fast fly for the first time and thought "man! i can't really find anything wrong with it?" more coverage is always nice but in w. texas you stand a better chance of winning the loto than getting rain LOL

The ENO flys I have had were good quality. As Cannibal said, coverage is an issue. Another thing is with silnylon you can get smaller weight and bulk.

i'll eventually go to sil nylon but this hammock thing is getting exspensive rather quickly LOL. i think i'm gonna make what i can and use what i got so that the cost doesn't zap the fun out of this thing too quickly. i'll start my long term saving fund for all the things i can't make and can't live without

glad you asked this because i was wondering the same thing. I ordered the ENO profly and it should be here soon, I'll let you now how it works when i get it. Im new to all of this but i would think the pro and fast flys would be decent, and at an ok price, but the dry fly definitley looks a little iffy on the coverage. Like you, im from texas but east, so i was looking for something i can definitley catch a breeze in but also be fully covered when i need it for a decent price.

I was lookin on there website the other day and saw a tarp called the superfly. its big but it weighs a whole lot haha

I really like my Dryfly. I have been in torrential rain and stayed dry. Each of the lines (including the ridge) have their own adjustments at the tarp. a quick marlinespike on the stakes and adjustment is easy. I have noticed that they give plenty of line to tie out wide for good weather and in close for rain. My hammock has yet to get wet due to weather. It may look funny, but it has done the job for me so far. .

Thats good to hear wyleone. I thought those looked pretty neat, just didnt know how useable it would be. Doesnt seem like it would provide sufficent coverage, but I cant really say anything as to i dont have one. Glad its working out for you and hopefully the profly will provide the same results for me.

I have considered a Kelty Noah 12 for a heavy tarp (for non-backpacking) But my dryfly is light and easily packs down for my backpacking exploits. I am not a gram counter but big tarps are either pricey or heavy. The Dryfly was a great balance for me.
