    question about hanging tarp

I am new to hammocks in general but I just bought the guide gear 12x12 tarp and I was wondering about using a ridgeline with it. How do I choose a ridgeline? what thickness and do I have to buy another set of tree huggers for the tarp also? sorry for not knowing anything about this at all haha. any help is appreciated.

Tree huggers are not needed for the tarp, as the weight and pull on the tree bark is minimal. There are a few options when it comes to hanging a tarp. Best advice I can give is to watch Shug's Tarp series in the video section. There's several 9-10min videos that cover most anything dealing with tarps. You ought to get your ? answered by the end of these.

If not, post back on here about a specific set up so you won't get such a general answer.

A simple method may be to check out www.whoopieslings.com He has a Tarp ridgeline complete set up for next to nothing. Opie, the owner of the website, has a video on here on how to setup and use this. Very easy, and all in one kit.

I use paracord for my ridgeline, and I have a carabiner attached to a loop at one end, and I wrap that around the tree and clip it to the ridgeline.

On the other end, I have a figure 9. Simple as that.

If that didn't make sense, I can post a pic or two on sunday.

Zing it is a popular RL choice, either 1.75 or 2.2. Paracord is nice but stretches a lot and absorbs water (I actually like the stretchy bit, just not the water part).

This vid may help too, nothing too new or diff from what you've already seen I'm sure but it might help.

    Good luck,
