I see it is still a problem to be watched out for. Right back at the beginning of WSs on HF, I warned(posted) about this problem. I had made my 1st set of whoopies and put them in my pack. Got to camp, pulled the hammock out of the pack, and there it was---- on both ends! Before I could ever use them on the 1st trip( luckily, I had not yet removed my webbing suspension from my JRB hammock) It took me a long time, and was a major PITA, but I finally recovered both and still use both.

    I immediately started:
1: pulling the loops all the way out- far as they woud go- before packing up
2: tying a loop in the WS making it impossible to pull it too far in on itself, then undo loop when setting up:

3: I have wrapped a couple of those wire thingies that you tie up brad bags or trash bags with around the WS at the jucntion of the bury.

No problems since all of the above. Probably either of the last 2 solves the problem, and the 1st one pretty much takes care of it if a little caution is used. But a bead or burying a piece of Amsteel at the junction would be lots more elegant.

I wonder if a small crochet hook would help to dig it out?

I dont have the same cordage as you guys atm, I've only made the whoopie slings a few times from 550 paracord to see how they work, but soon as I saw the potential for the bury to disapear in side and be lost from either end, I added a new 5" piece of cord and fitted/burried it in the last section that it could not pull inside itself. (so now when its pulled to its shortest length there is a loop or eye formed which can not disapear).
The Tail / tag end, I also pulled 5" inside it self (making it double thickness) again to prevent it pulling through and disapearing inside the main constricting part.

Dont know if Amsteel or D12 will allow the same method to be used or does it have a loose weave allowing for the core to open more?

    SUCCESS!

I started digging in the inversion with a dulled exacto blade. I was able to pull up on one strand at a time. It was surprisingly easy, as the loop was only 1/8" down. I did manage to get it back, but pulled it under one strand. I fiddled it back into place. It's not as clean as it was, but it should work, since I have a 10/5" bury...

I had already tied a prussic loop of mason's line to my other end with my toggle attached... not sure why I didn't do this end.

    Thanks for the encouragement!

I had that problem a few months ago. I reported it in this thread here:
Florida Trail with 3S Incubator and Slider tarp.

I fixed this from happening again by keeping the smallest s-biner in the loop to keep it from pulling back on itself. I tried for 30 minutes with a marlinspike to undo the damage (in the dark) but finally gave up and cut the line so I could get the hammock set up.

I have done it as well. but now I add a wooded bead to the inside of the loop to prevent the turtle.

Here is the whoopie mod I made to my Hennessy.
The bead prevents the loop from closing onto itself.

    Good Luck with this.
