    Looks Good SR

I am sure the GF will like the setup under the "thunderdome"

I don't think the Larks head with cord would work on the grip end of cushioned handles like I use, but I might try a basket, of sorts, on the grip end.

    Anyone remember macrame'?

Nice job SR! Totally dig the multi-use here. And what about a bar - length of wood or whatever - that has notches in it to accept the amsteel? The position would be right where SR's is.

A bar would do the same thing. Just a simple notch in the end to hold placement on the line, and some way to keep in from falling out of place, small bungie maybe.

The problem for some is carrying an extra piece of material, only used for one thing.

I'm with you carrying an extra piece but this would only be for car camping. I'm bringing my step-daughter to MAHHA with me and she asked about us sleeping under the same tarp. She's 11 and things still go 'bump' in the night for her and I don't want her to get scared. Some testing shall commence, thanks!

I would think that a wooden dowel rod would work fine... We load tested this set-up yesterday for about an hour and all went well with my alum trekking poles...I was concerned that they might slip at the twist lock extensions but they seems to hold just fine... Looking forward to getting out there with the GF in a hammock...

I like this, one of the things that always bothered me about hammock camping was the lack of intimacy, I know some of you folks REALLY enjoy being alone out in the woods, but I miss the idle chatter before falling asleep that always transpired in a tent.

Just got back from 9 days 8 nights in the Upper Pennisula of Michigan and spent every night together in the hammocks. Everything worked great for the both of us, bug nets were MANDATORY!!!! One thing I do to protect the tarp is I have a couple of tennis balls that I sliced a slot in. These go over sharp end of trekking poles.... That would be a disaster to have one of them come poking through the tarp....

I love the idea of the trekking pole spreader bar.

is that purple fabric from walmart? I think I saw it there. I might need to get myself some of that!

How did you get that white no-see-um or is that tulle!
