We have made it 1 mile in and lost 2 from the mothra sized skeeters carrying them away, and lost another to malaria. This is the worst I have ever seen. I am sorry to all that come out here for starting the thread. The worst idea I have ever had. I feel no shame for giving up.

Oh hell, please tell me we didn't lose people already. Perhaps I should've suggested flamethrowers in addition to permethrin. Maybe I'm not so bummed I'll be spending the weekend in my backyard.

Wow, those mosquitoes were rough! I got there just before 10am this morning, and when I didn't see anyone, I checked the forum on my phone and found out the reason. Theflb, I hiked on the north loop 2 miles past State Road 50 looking for your tarp, until I was forced back by mosquitoes, didn't find it. I assume you guys went on the north loop....

Thanks lilricky but we found the tarp. Man they were bad, we were chased back to the car at one point and they were outside rocking it for 20 minutes. We had 100% deet but it really seemed to attract them

I had 100% DEET on, it seemed to take care of the smaller ones, but those Asian Tiger Mosquitoes just laughed at it:

Yipes! We did the north loop in the fall, and as Gavin McCloud says in Kelly's Heroes, "we was assaulted by those tigers." I am surprised they were as bad as that this early in the year, but it is Florida--which is to say a species of hell in the warm months. I am sad though that it was so bad you all had to turn back. That only makes the *******s feel all the more smug when they hit you next time. I hope everyone was able to nurse their wounds well. I for one would like to know more about just what happened and what strategies have worked or not. I started a thread on mosquitoes once before, but unless you really have undergone a Florida swamp assault, then you cant really grasp how bad this can be. I would love to know what has really worked for people. Meanwhile, we will all look forward to the winter!
Hedgehogs! Why can't they just share the hedge?
