    newb pad question

Brand new hanger here. I have a Warbonnet Traveler on the way. I'll be using a pad until I can afford an UQ. I use a neoair regular on the ground and it works great. Would I be better off using that or would I be better off buying a wider CCF blue pad? I'm usually a side sleeper.

Depends on how wide you are at the shoulders. Most of the time your arms will be hanging off of the side of the pad if it is not wide enough. Another option you might want to look at combines the pad with an emergency blanket, and that is one of the sun shades for your car. The one I have came with my Hennessy but it is the same concept. Bubble pad for the air pocket and the reflective coating for a vapor barrier and added warmth. Check out Hennessyhammocks.com and then look at the Deep Jungle XL, it has a pic of the pad. hope you find something that works.

    CCF on top of neoair?

Would putting a 1/8" CCF pad on top of the neo air help with the width problem or would that be awkward since there wouldn't be any pad supporting the wider portion? I'm also considering buying a 3/8" CCF and then using the 1/8" pad I already have width wise in the torso/shoulder area on top of the 3/8" pad. Any guess on how cold I could go down to with something like that with a 25 degree quilt?

1/8" is very thin so you won't be able to go super low with it, even with the 3/8" on the torso. For me, I would say 40-45 degrees. I'm a bit of a cold sleeper, though. With the 1/8 on top of the Neo Air, you might be able to get away with it, really not sure on that.

    Here's an idea for ye:

Zippy zip to your local Walmart store and buy two of the windshield sun shades they sell (the large size for pick-up trucks). Position them on the floor at home in such a way that they provide complete coverage under your bod - you're gonna have to play with this a while. Once you find a suitable combination, get out some cellophane packing tape and tape the two shades together (on both sides). Having done this, cut the booger to fit your profile, leaving ample space to cover your shoulders, arms, etc... The packaging tape is delightfully flexible and folds well for easy packing. *Most important, never throw away your scraps - they could come in handy for any number of things.
Some of the sun shades are reflective on both sides. Others are not, but either one will suffice. It's a cheap, customizable solution to hold you over during times of diminished funds.

    give her a whirl...

Or you could go to Home Depot/Lowes etc and buy a roll reflectix and cut your own design. You could also buy foam sheets online at places like foambymail.com and foamorder.com and cut them to shape.

I don't mind making a pad and using/cutting foam, but its difficult to know what temps I can take something like that down to. How much foam will I need to take me down to 30 degrees for 3 season use? I usually use a 25 degreee top quilt. I know there are variables, but more or less what will I need? Shug, thanks for the videos - good stuff. Doesn't look like SPE's are available commercially anymore. Is there something similar available anywhere?
