    hennesy question

just a quick question to any other hennesy hammockers out there,

i recently set up my two asym expeditions to put the snake skins on them. I was showing them off to a friend, hoping to get hi to become a hammocker as well, and had an issue with the tarps.

has anyone used the stock flys with hennesy asym models? do they keep you dry? is it easier if you set up a second ridgeline?

hoping to hear all sorts of answers....any info you can provide will greatly help this newbie hammocker

    thanks

I fussed with the small stock tarp for awhile. Seemed to get better flexibility by having on a separte line. I could pitch it lower/higher and tweak the side coverage a bit better. Still, wasn't quite the coverage I wanted, so I upgraded to a HH Hex. Set it up on porch mode once and knew this is what I wanted immediately.

The stock HH tarp is fine _if_ weight is the most important issue and you are willing to put up with the learning curve. There are plenty of people who have used the stock tarp in all sorts of bad weather and stayed dry. Site selection is important and good familiarity with the ins and outs of the tarp is needed. If you want foul weather porch space then you won't enjoy the stock tarp. But it is entirely servicable.

I think it's meant as a summer tarp more than anything. A lot of poeple hate that tarp but it will be my go-to tarp in the summer. It's definitely better with a seperate ridgline.

I've used my stock set up in some good rains and kept dry. Have thought about a bigger tarp, but I dont want to add weight (the main reason I bought the UL backpacker). I like the fact that if it rains I can slide the snake skins over the hammock giving me space to chill under the tarp. And my pals who use tents can have shelter too..

I've weathered some rain in the stock tarp, but I plan on upgrading before before I camp in the rain. The stock tarp did the job (although I do think I strung it up on a separate suspension), but I want the added insurance of a larger tarp. Plus, I want the gear that doesn't go in the hammock to also have a dry place, and a larger tarp should help with that.

I use my stock HH tarps on a regular basis. Mainly to keep the night time dew and or frost off of the hammock. This allows me to pack up a somewhat dry hammock and stuff the wet tarp seperatly. Hanging the stock tarp seperately is my choice.

I have the stock "little" tarp and their larger tarp. I prefer the little one because it's lighter, but the larger tarp gives much better coverage and is more forgiving to set up.

I used my stock tarp all last summer including a weeklong hang where it rained 2 days straight. It kept everything dry as I would swing the edges in depending on the outlook for the day.

Seperate ridgeline is definitely the way to go. When it is hooked to the suspension line, it will loosen slightly when you enter the hammock and the slack can flap all night.
