It seems that every time I see discussion about ridgelines everyone has whoopie sling type adjustable ridgelines. Anyone use fixed? How much do you really need to adjust the lines once you find the ideal length? I'm just trying to see if an adjustable ridgeline is a really important piece of a newbie's setup.

My Hennessy hammocks have fixed and haven't had a need to change that.
On my DIY gathered ends I usually use fixed as well. Did make an adjustable one but didn't find myself making changes so went back to fixed.

I use my adjustable ridgeline only temporarily when I first build a new DIY hammock to dial-in the most comfortable length.
Once I find the right length, I replace the adjustable RL with an appropriately sized fixed length one.
For a long time I didn't even own an adjustable length RL and never really missed it. Its nice to have, but certainly not essential.

I am a relative noob, so take this with a grain of salt.
I have an ENO DN and have added whoopie slings thanks to all of the knowledge shared on this forum. In addition I added a structural ridge line. I found that this really helped me get the proper sag for a very comfortable hang. This made setup time so much faster as there was no guessing or re-adjustments involved.
I ended up making a whoopie sling instead of a fixed ridge line as it seemed easier than trying to do two eye splices. I am sure there is a way to do a locked Brummel on both ends but I was too lazy to research.
Last note....I made my ridge line removable by using (2) 1/8" quick links, as my kids (4 and 2) love to use the hammock in "chair mode" and the ridge line can get in the way of our hammock wrestling matches. :-)

On the 3 hammocks I own all have fixed ridgelines. Never found a need to adjust one.
I used Utility Cord from REI for a long, long time on my hammock with great success. Larkshead on one end over the suspension at whipping and a cross-over knot on the other end. Easy to tie and un-tie.

I replaced mine on my HH with Amsteel when I did my whoopies. I dialed it in, then made it a fixed. I see no need to ever readjust it.

Thanks all. I think I will be just fine with a fixed line. I'll just have to fiddle with it until I find my ideal position.
I think down the road when I have more hammocks an adjustable line will be useful, but until then this will work for me.
I agree with BurningCedar. I actually prefer a fixed line, but will use an adjustable to find the sweet spot.
I didn't know what my sweet spot was, so I made a Zing-it whoopie SRL to mess around with. I haven't adjusted it much since finding my "spot", but I haven't been motivated enough to make a fixed one and replace it, either. Once in a blue moon something just doesn't feel right so I tweak it and get a good lay, but that's probably due to it slightly slipping from my perfect setting as opposed to me needing multiple SRL lengths to get comfortable.
If it were me, I'd probably make an adjustable one, it's about the same amount of work, and use it to find my setting and then make a fixed one. The adjustable one could then be used on the next hammock.
