    Central Florida suggestions?

I will be on vacation with my family in Melbourne Beach, FL during the week of 3/21 and I am looking for good overnight solo backpacking/hanging opportunity.

I have limited backpacking experience with none in Florida. If I understand correctly it is turkey season that week, and I don't really know how much of an issue that will be.

    Any suggestions welcome...

There are several hanging opportunities but not much in the way of backpacking in the general area of Melbourne Beach. If you feel like driving about an hour inland there's Tosohatchee WMA. They have a nice loop trail with a backcountry campsite. There's also a huge group camping area with nice spreading oaks.

A super short and easy hike might be Hal Scott Preserve. The hiking is basically on old roadbeds. There's also some good hanging down around Sebastian Inlet but I've never been that way. I believe Sunny's Trike lives down in that area so he can probably chime in.

Good luck. Looks like we'll have some great weather.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

My in-laws who have a place down there like to spend time a Sebastian Inlet, so I have been there a couple of times but never thought of camping there.

Hmmm... I just read the Canaveral Hang thread for later that week, about 2 hours away. That looks pretty interesting and would scratch the itch...
