I previously reserved site # 13 at Jefferson Creek for two nights beginning 7/07. I believe they allow up to eight people, but only 2 cars/ site. Hopefully we can fill up some trees...

I have a spare CT Guidebook (Eighth Edition). If anyone can use a copy, just PM me with a shipping address.

Yes the advantage of doing it earlier rather than later is there should be more water. Might even be sloppy in places.
Based on this info how much water carrying capacity are you taking?

I usually need lots of water. A couple years ago I was day hiking with a couple of friends. The hike was from about nine in the morning till mid afternoon about 3. Ted said that he would take a couple of water bottles that were about 16 ounces each. I took two of those bottles plus at 2 liter bottle of water. He had water left at the end of the hike and I ran out.
I hope to tank up and not carry to much. It will depend on the weather and how much we will be gaining in elevation.
To answer the question I usually start with a couple of Gatorade bottles, but will add to that for longer times between water. I don't like to run out unless I know where the next water is.
I've been walking looking forward to the hike.

    1 - 20 oz Gatorade bottle

    1 - 32 oz. Gatorade bottle

    1 - 2 quarter Platypus bottle

1 - 2 quarter Platypus water tank (only for camp use).

I doubt that I will actually carry more than 2 quarts plus the 20 oz. Gatorade bottle hiking.

What are the chances that the Jefferson Campground will have a lot of camper during the week? I'm thinking that we will arrive on July 6 for a couple of days of adjustment to the elevation and day hikes.
If I make reservations any suggestions of site number other than not #13?

I have never backpacked in the Rockies and would love to make a trip like this. I also have frequent flier miles piling up and looking to be used... Unfortunately I have a work commitment that week that would interfere. So I will jealously be following the trip thread and look forward to maybe tagging along on a future Rockies trip w/ some of the HF Rockies crowd. Have fun and stay safe!

WalkingBear has been kind enough to offer me a rideshare (thanks man), but my modes of transportation are somewhat limited (walking and cycling)... So getting to his start spot to from mine would be a 137 mile trek (longest cycling trek I've ever done)

I haven't cycled much in the last two years but I think some hard training will let me pull it off and make this trip. I'm familiar with the weather here in the Omaha area this time of year but I'm cautious about what sort of weather kit I should be bringing and prepping for? I sure hope there's no snow, hiking barefoot in snow sucks
