Very cool setup..
Very cool setup..
We would be one step closer to world peace, if everyone slept in a hammock..
I'm really curious about this setup. When it rains, does the canvas shed the water or does it get heavy and soggy?
We would have to treat the tent canvas every other season in order to keep it waterproof. You would have to be carefull not to rub up against it during a storm. Their is something about being secure in an old canvas tent during a rainstorm.
A little of both...it sheds water, at the same time there is a small amount of absorption which swells the fibers, enhancing the waterproof qualities.
I have deer hunted out of canvas wall tents for years, and the only time I've experienced any leakage was during a multi day rain event of Biblical proportions. The leakage was slight...barely remarkable. I've never treated my canvas.

Just so you know the wedge tent that Oldgringo linked to above is made in Portland, Oregon. So I think it is a good bet that the makers of these tents know a thing or two when it comes to using them in rain events of biblical proportions. I personally would only be using this setup for winter camping of the car or toboggan variety.

That is awesome man! Have you tested it out in winter yet? If so, what did you think?

Yeah, winter has been kind of a joke this year.
I want to make a base camp to live out of for a few days while I spend the days getting firewood and exploring the woods with my dog.
With a wood stove tent I can get down to much colder temps and still be comfy while the fire is going.
This very well may be what I'm going to do. I really like the room it has and I'm pretty confident I could make one of these myself.
Thanks a bunch for making this thread.
