    Ground cloth

I've noticed in a lot of hammock pictures that people use a ground cloth or mat of some sort next to or under their hammock. What do folks use? I'd like to find something sturdy, not too big, and light weight, but not so light that it will blow away or blow around. I like to keep my camp chair next to my hammock for sitting in to dress when I get up, but I'd like to have a relatively dry / clean spot for my feet to land. What do you guys use????

I just use a small piece of plastic now but i plan on making some sort of combo like the Jerry chair so i can have a chair by the fire, ground cover, sit pad, and weather shield option... That's my thought anyway it's on my list of diy stuff.

I know some folks use a small square of Tyvek building wrap available from Home Depot or Lowes. I planned to try it for my "cK Smokehouse" floor.

I have a blue Coleman poncho that I land on. It can be seen in just about any pic of my rig.

I've yet to use one just because I always forget to bring one, but everytime I see the benefit more and more. Ill either pick up some tyvek or use a 55 gal drum liner I already have.

Tendertoe mentioned it should be atleast as long as you in case you must go to ground. Sounds smart to me.

You've mentioned, more than once, that weight isn't a major consideration for you. That being the case, take a door mat.

Before I switched over to Tyvek, I used the footprint from my old tent.

Usually have 4 stakeout points to prevent them from blowing away (but don't need them, necessarily, if you put your boots and pack on it).

If you do need to go to ground for any reason, you know it will fit you because that's what it is made for.

My Kelty Gunnison 2.1 footprint weighed 6.8 oz so not terribly heavy either.

You can pick up a nice one for $20-$40.

    Tyvek!
But might change that for a JRB pack cover as the only reason I have the tyvek is a dry spot to lay my gear on!

Yep, Thanks to you Cranky Bear I have Tyvek! I put my pack on it and my boots so it doesn't blow away and everything stays dry.
