I'm down with Dub's idea. Multiple use is a crazy shortcut to cutting or at least compromising, the weight issue.
It's much easier to justify carrying something if your choice can do double duty.

I use my pack cover. i put some stuff in it that i may need at night and keep my feet dry in the morning.
But I have a plan......
I hope to do a trip to Assateague Island Natl Seashore this spring, also known as the home of the Wild Ponies, Sika Deer, and 1,000,000,000 ticks.
I have a piece of heavy coated cordura nylon that I plan on hemming and adding four corner loops for stakes. I plan on treating this with permethrin to deal with the ticks, and possibly provide me with a perverse bit of entertainment as I watch disoriented ticks bumble about before succumbing to the throes of death.

Thanks KM. Sometimes I need someone to point out the flaws in my thinking. It sure sounded like a good idea when I typed it. Ill keep thinking something equally as worthless is bound to come to me. lol

Haven't seen anyone mention this before, I used to use a large dog food bag split open and washed. Material is similar to the material in a cheap poly tarp. Just as loud as tyvek
The trees are drawing me near, I've got to find out why?
Those gentle voices I hear, explain it all with a sigh.
