    Using AMSTEEL for other items

After ordering some 7/64" Amsteel from Paul @ Arrowhead Equipment and making me a couple of Whoopie Slings, I decided to use some left over for other projects. I made a couple of lanyards for a Cold Steel pocket knife and a small Winchester multi-tool. I also placed a couple of thread stitches in the burys for security. Works great too! Danny

I have been trying to think of some other good uses, I like the idea of the lanyard. I would be interested in what other uses people are using Amsteel for, or even Lash-It.

You could try the triangle thingie that people have been making with them. Suspension extenders are a must for me. Aside from that my friends use the extender as fire wood carriers as well.

Not to be a party pooper, but Amsteel is total overkill for such things. Even braided mason line is overkill (break strength in the of about 150 of lbs). Hollow braided nylon draw cord (break strength around 50 lbs) is cheap, has a better feel than Amsteel etc, and comes in a wider variety of colors--plus, it's less likely to rip your arm off if it gets snagged on something.

Totally agree, just had some available and was curious more than anything.

So called soft-shackles and even just loops can be very useful and only require a few feet of Amsteel to make.

I'll second the soft-shackles, they're really handy, quick to make, and use very little amsteel

Have had to use an extender on more than 1 occasion due to a girthy tree and a long hang (both in areas where there were designated camping areas so the pickens were slim). Plus they are great firewood carriers.

Just got into soft shackles. 30 inches of material for a great little doodad.

Also, a pack leash. 5-10 feet of amsteel (or Dynaglide) with dead eyes on both ends. I think Doctari was the one to turn me onto these things in a video of his I saw.

Nothing nicer than reaching camp. Wrapping a piece of amsteel (or Dynaglide) around the tree and clipping your pack to it. Nothing has to touch the wet, snowy, dirty ground and I feel it makes packing easier when my pack is waist level hanging from a tree for me to smush things into it.

Amsteel is great, but Dynaglide is my new friend.

I have made several soft shackles and continious loops. Since I had the amsteel, I used it to make an adjustable ridge line for my DIY gather end. If I want to make it removable, I just use a soft shackle to attach it. I also made a ridgeline with a locked brummel loop on both ends.

I made a lanyard for my knife. I've set it so it's perfect as a thumb safety loop. Looks a **** sight better than the paracord I was using before, too. Excuse the poor lighting...
