Niche Market for Ultralite Hammock Backpacking

If I can add my two cents... just kiddin' I've got no 'sense' at all.
I started out ultralight but have long 'since' gotten over it. I add a pound... drop a pound. The DIY is half the fun.

I've been camping on and off for many years. This hammock gear seems creepy to me, so light, yet (hopefully) so strong. Hard thing to get in to my head. Now just when its starting to become "normal" to lie in a piece of material so thin that it only has one side (old joke, sorry), you want to go ultralight. I think I'll wait about 1000 years when we have levitation as a normal thing!

Oh-No knows him. Oh-No has made CF hammock, CF pack, and CF tarps.

I made & used a double bottom Cuben hammock for a while but had issues
with poor abrasion resistance so I'm back to nylon. Cuben packs have the
same issues but I will still use one. Cuben tarps are great. YMMV

Isn't hammocking all about getting a better nights sleep than sleeping on the ground ? It'll never be really lightweight but there's obviously some gear out there now which is getting pretty close.

I think as ideas progress over the next few years there will be some amazing products available, and I'm glad I'll be around to make the most of it

In my eyes, the biggest difference between an ultralight grounder and hanger is going to be the hammock/suspension. All other gear is going to be virtually equal. Both need a tarp, minimal or not...both need a sleeping bag/quilt...the grounder will have a pad, where the hanger might do as mentioned here and zip the bag around the hammock, or carry a pad of similar weight as the grounder. So if the hanger has a nano/whoopie combo, or something similar...you're looking at what, 9-10oz more weight, and not waking up with rocks dug into your back...count me in!

I just can't resist chiming in here. I am a staunch advocate for U.L and I am working on getting my Base weight (since going to hammocking) back down to the 4.5lbs like it was when I was a ground dweller, but I will settle for an even 5 if I can. I am this {} close to it, and as soon as I do I was going to post a "whats in my pack" video for you guys and then do a series "why its in my pack" for you guys as well. But I am still working (me and some friends) on some stuff the is area 51 classified for right now and not ready to reveal it.

Another thing is I have never made a video so I am sure there will be a learning curve of editing and posting, and my camera will only do 15minutes if video as well.

Any way. Yes I think the only difference in UL grounders and hammockers is the sleep system. But I have also noticed that hammockers tend to carry heavier items in general and or are strictly car campers or boaters. Its like they/we don't really care a whole lot about weight per se.

For me though....almost every decision is based on how much does it weigh, and how many purposes can I get out of it.
