    The fire extinguisher may have been from a helicopter helispot and failed to make the last load out.

    Book, it's on a small concrete pad on the hillside. Would a helo drop spot be constructed in such a permanent manner?

    If I saw it, I would instinctively check the gauge to see if it still had pressure!

    Mac, there may be a patrol cabin nearby. They are often hidden from the public. It is still just a guess, for there are many projects out there that are started but never finished.

    There was a helicopter pad, just a cleared area on top of a knob. The fire extinguisher was on top of a stump, not concrete. Manning Camp is the main base for the backcountry Rangers in Seguaro - they have a cabin there. I thought it was odd that the extinguisher was there as well - I like odd things. Here is another odd thing I saw on my travels:
