Does it make any difference that the tests were on tubular nylon webbing?

i use gutermanns's thread, as for what kind of stitch, i just use a straight stitch, i make a box and then go corner to corer so that i make an "X" in the middle of the box and do 3 on each strap loop, each box is pry about 1.5" long

No, other then the fact that tubular is around 5000lb break strength. I use it on all my hammocks, just because it feels softer in hand then flat nylon or polyester.
As for stitch pattern, In the long run, I doubt it really matters if we use a box stitch or whatever. I mean come on people we arnt making fall arrestors, or slings to hold 5000lbs. Jesus. Just sew a box, or whatever you feel comfortable with. There has been WAY too much handholding on this subject lately.
I personally go around the perimeter once, then long ways zig zag covering 2-3'' of strap.
