Amazon has a Grand Trunk UL for under $17. If the Wally World hammock doesn't suit you, the UL might be an option.

I would agree with everyone else. A woven hammock from wal-mart is a completely different experience. A better cheap option would have been one of the parachute/Brazilian hammocks from your local academy for around $20.00. But maybe it'll get your feet wet enough.

Another cheap option is to build Risk's cheap test hammock just to see if you like it.

After I built his test hammock, I knew I was hooked.

I have to disagree. It will at least let you know if you want to keep walking to get from point A to point B or try driving.

My first hammock was a narrow, cotton canvas back yard type that I had laying around the house. Wasn't the best night's sleep but even with all the negatives, and there were a lot, it was still a little bit better than sleeping on the ground. And that meant that if I could work out the bugs, I could go back to backpacking and quit thinking about the good old days of spending the night in the woods.

Got the bugs worked out thanks to this place and I'm back in the saddle again.

I tried the hammock last night. It was a piece of junk, but I did like it better than sleeping in a tent. I am not really set on a Claytor, but I do think that they are what I want. I don't like the Hennessy entrance, and I like the double bottom of the Claytor. I also like how large it is. For the same price, or less, is there another similar option? Thanks.

My Claytor hammock is my goto. Every time I try another, I keep going back to it. In the process of making my own Claytor Clone now.

personally, i hang a blackbird and i really like it. my next hammock will be a switchback.
i'm trying to get my wife to come hanging with me and she likes my bb. the switchback is on about the same level as the bb. the sb has a zipper on both sides which will allow me to ad a pod style insulation system in the winter and escape the skeeters when its warm. both are available with double layer construction (my preference).
read as many threads as you can on HF, you'll find all the brands and styles with very strait forward opinions and information on them.
always follow The Golden Rule and have fun.
