Here is my problem (thanks to all of you)

Just a few weeks ago, I only vaguely knew that people camped with hammocks. I saw a photo on-line of someone motorcycle camping with a hammock and thought it looked more comfortable than sleeping on the ground. Next, I found Hammock Forums and soon became hooked on the idea.

So now I have a Hennessy Explorer Deluxe that I've spent a total of 30 minutes in and I'm not satisfied. I'm not satisfied and all of you are to blame. I feel the uncontrollable need to remove the stock suspension system and replace it with whoopie slings. I wont be able to rest until I replace the fixed ridge line with an adjustable one. I've already added about six inches of shock cord to the tie-out lines on my tarp. Of course, I had to add a ridge line to my tarp as well. I've got two ccf pads and a couple of sleeping bags but, from what I've read, I've must have an under quilt. I'm already on my second set of tree straps and I'm still not completely happy. I tried carabiners and steel rings (not MSR descending rings) and it didn't work all that well. Now, I'm using tree straps with large figure 9 carabiners but I'm not crazy about this setup either. So now I'm thinking of using toggles and whoppies.

Keep in mind that I've set this hammock up in the backyard twice. I HAVEN'T EVEN SPENT ONE NIGHT IN THIS THING YET! But ****, I'm having fun.

Stare into the light. Welcome, isn't it nice to have fun? My wife calls it putzing. Hammocks have given me more putz time. Time to clear my head of all the annoying details of life. Enjoy the putz time.

    Hey Shug,

I've watched most of your videos. Very informative and entertaining. Also, the juggling, unicycle and hat tricks are fantastic. Is entrainment your full time "day Job"?

    Thanks for watching them ....all!
It is my job. I'm in Lakeland, FL now getting ready to head over and do a couple of shows at the Lakeland Civic Center for the Canadian Snowbird Extravaganza.
I'm excited as Rich Little is on the bill this year. He is a nice feller.
Shows at 11:30 and 3:00 ....early gig. Love that.

Hello CapitalCop, My name is John and I would like to welcome you to the addiction that is hammock camping. I will tell you that the need to mod your gear eventually lessens to a point that your loved ones no longer look at you funny and whisper to each other behind your back..............I almost got that typed out with a straight face!!!!!!! It does not lessen with time and at some point may get worse, Fear the dreaded DIY bug!!!! All joking aside, if it brings a smile to your face and doesn't interfere with Family Time then it has to be a good thing, right??????

    Welcome to the madness .
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

Yea, my family started razing me about my "obsession". I told them I checked with my hammock buddies and they said it was normal. They are the ones with a problem.

My name is Alamosa and I have been off the hammock for 48 hours now...

John I can identify. I had made whoopie slings, tree straps, snake skins, a 10x11 winter tarp (that was a beast), a new ridge-line, ordered a UQ from arrowhead equipment, even drilled hooks into my basement walls for hanging... all BEFORE I had spent even 1 night in it. My wife called me crazy. Perhaps....
For I know the plans I have for you, sayeth my wife.

Yeah sounds serious all right. The only hope you have is to start napping plus hanging overnight until you have your rig set up right. Then you will need to begin taking it to the woods until that feels right. I suggest you spend some time, then more time, in it until you don't think about it.

Me? Well Bloomgorge made some Elephant Trunk buckles that fit on webbing and the "trunk" end hooks to the hammock line loop. They also easily unhook so I can store my webbing separate from the hammock. I will be experimenting with it soon as they get here. Oh and I beat out all for a BBO that Danalex was selling, that will need some muscle memory drills. I had to give up my heroin addiction because it was cutting into my hammock gear money.

I can quit hammocks anytime I want to. No really...
