Something tells me the Gunnison area will have 6'-20' of snow in March.
I'm starting to think this area may be better for a summer hang.
11,600 is close enough to timberline that trees might be a problem for a big hang.

I am starting to lean toward doing something closer to Denver, Colorado Springs, or Fort Collins - mainly because we can't seem to get much excitement going for this trip, and I don't want it to end up like the Goose Creek trip last year.
I wouldn't mind doing Ft. Collins, so I can hit some breweries after a night in the woods....
I did some research on Golden Gate Canyon State Park since I do a lot of day hiking / Mtn Biking there and thought it would be a great place for an overnight hang. Great trails and super views of the Mtns.
When I read that you could not have an open fire I dumped the idea.

Mustardman are you thinking car camp or hike in?
I'm thinking a car camp, personally - some guys from work would like to join, and their joining would probably involve bringing a couple of bottles (cases) of local craft brew to consume.
Not all of us have fancy shmancy pulks to haul our beer in on...
Edit: However, if it's a hike in I'm fine with that too, I can always go camping with the work guys some other time. More excuses to go camping is a win-win to me.

Maybe we could talk Cannibal into bringing some wood targets for zombie killing practice?
What about Roosevelt National Forest? They've got a couple of car camping sites that would seem to fit for us; Long Draw and Tom Bennett. Obvious problem is that they are both listed as "seasonal". Season seems to open in late May. Maybe we can talk to someone and work out an arrangement similar to what we did at the Winter Hang. Just a thought for a northern hanging spot.
Maybe someone else is familiar with the area better, but when I lived in Ft. Collins a thousand years ago, there were some great camping spots around Red Feather Lakes. Don't know if development has taken over or not, but it was a beautiful area.

I am booked until Memorial Day weekend. So I will not be attending a spring hang.
I would like to hike Segment 6 of the Colorado Trail. Maybe a summer hang at Jefferson Lake could be combined with a hike.
