Yeah count me in too. If 2Q&ZQ make these available in ripstop I'll be buying one.

Has anyone tried to make a UQ cover/bottom half of pod, out of something like goretex or ultrex? I would think that being much more windproof would have tons of advantages? Goretex is certainly expensive but ultrex is pretty cheap. Thoughts ??

Maybe if they came in camo they'd be more popular...

And you can count me in too. But it must come all the way up to the hammock ends like the way Shug has done it.

    Hi BlazeAway,
What would be the advantage of taking the material all the way to the ends of the hammock?

    Hi OutandBack
Taking the material all the way back at the ends of the hammock will eliminate draft from any wind blowing and preserve the heat generated under the BBO in case such a one is used. Furthermore having two layers of material at the ends traps air that will work as an insulator. In fact if they make a breathable copy of the HH SS sock with the bottom hole closed I will buy it immediacy.

2nd nite of testing the prototype (not in production)2QZQ ripstop nylon UQ protector. Another perfect evening to hang.
I experienced no cold spots and slept in to about 8am. With my hand I felt between all layers and could feel no dampness from condensation. So far I am very happy with the results. The uncoated ripstop nylon is performing well. I plan to spent 1 more night (3 in a row) and will weigh my QU to see if it has held any moisture. Here’s a few picts.

11PM headed out to the hammock. It was snowing lightly. Predicted low temps +15F

I packed the wbbb foot box with my sleeping bag to see what the UQP would do. On the other side of the footbox the UQP came around the footbox and hugged the UQ just fine. I’m not sure if one could mod the UQP to also cover the bottom of the large wbbb footbox . I am using a REI blowup pad under my SB and me feet never felt cold.

Just a little closer shot. You can also see I've unzipped the netting and folded it out of the way.
This works great and I can reach around and check the UQ position and the UQP's position.

    Morning View from the hammock.

    Morning coffee.

    Hi BlazeAway,
I get a pretty tight seal at the end of the hammock as designed.

I have a HHSS and do like it's design at the ends. In fact the HHSS is what gave me the idea of a UQP in the first place.
Just did not want it made from waterproof material.
Also the HHSS does not fit a wbbb very well. It's too short and has footbox coverage issues.

    Hi OutandBack.

The HH SS has a near perfect fit on the WBBB though I agree that a little longer would be nice.

Do only use the tie point at the very end of the SS otherwise it will not fit.

Adjust the shock cords along the sides of the SS and the SS will cover the footbox perfectly.

    Hi BlazeAway,
Thank you for your post and the excellent pictures. I will agree, the HHSS end attachments are superior.

Here are a few more pictures of how the UQP is dealing with the wbbb footbox totally filled with pad and sleeping bag.

    A closer look

A view from the head end of the hammock looking at the wbbb shelf.

    UQP head end of hammock

For such a simple design I am very please at how this UQP forms/seals around the ¾ UQ.
Could it be improved on? Sure.
Maybe a bit longer, Maybe add some 1/16” shockcord along the sides to help it snug-up even more.
One thing is forsure, I don’t want something too big to stuff, too heavy, with lots of fiddle factor.

I hope by the end of this thread we will have an improved design. One not too complicated to make and one 2QZQ would be willing to make for us.

Keep in mind this current design is simple, and a big factor for me, very economical.
I would not want to have the design so complicated the price quadrupled.
