I've always taken hammocks as one option of being out in the wilderness. I would hate to think that it is my only way and without it I have to give up camping in the great outdoors.
If need be I can be comfortable on the ground, hanging from a tree, or burrowed into a pile of snow if that what it takes. The getting out and enjoying nature is the goal, hammocks are just a preferred option.

going to ground.
Once I carried a hammock as an adjunct to a tent. But last year I spent 15 nights in teh woods, all in hammocks. Now I have apprehension about returning to the ground if forced.
"Mommy, I dont wanna sleep on the ground!" WAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH
