Just thought I would introduce myself. I have been researching hammock camping for a week and am anxious to build my first hammock. My wife and I have always liked outdoor activities. In fact, for our 1 year anniversary we went camping at a nearby state park.
Before I got married I had dreamed of going lightweight hiking and started buying gear, like an ultralite 1 person tent and Thermarest mat. I also researched and built a tiny alcohol stove which works great. Then I got diagnosed with sleep apnea and that dream was shattered because of having to use a CPAP machine every night. But I still like camping and have bought a 15 pound battery to power my CPAP that will last 2 or 3 nights.
I recently saw someone on an unrelated forum (not sure which one) mention hammock camping and I was immediately curious. I googled hammock camping and found Jeff's site. I showed my wife and she is interested too. I like building stuff and want to build all my own equipment. So here I am. And I will continue diligently researching techniques and ideas. There's a lot of great info here.
