I'm a noob, but I have a couple hangs in the back yard using PEX. It is a type of water pipe similar to PVC. You can get it at Lowes and other home centers. It is available in various sizes it's very light (not a gram weenie yet) and worked great for me.
Ditto on the REI pole repair sleeve. These seem like they are made for hammocking. They've worked great for me. And so light.
Hi - I have just been using relatively thick twig or branch for my toggles...but seeing that everyone here takes their own with them I wonder if there are any serious disadvantages with wood toggles found in the wild?
I am using 1/4" ID aluminum tubing. Haven't had any problems. Waiting for my new toggles from Smokebait .
The only thing I can think of when using a stick from the woods is, when the hitch is loaded and tightened, how easy does the stick pull out? The slick finish/surface on the others will just slip right out.

I've been using spent 7.62x54 cartridges. If I were a gram weenie, I'd use 5.56. I have many .
