Newb from Wild Wonderful West Virginia

Been lurking here for a few days trying to gather some info for the start of my own personal hammock madness. First off a little about myself. Born & raised here in WV, parents brought me up loving the outdoors with camping trips all the time, including the grandparents. I love camping, mt. biking, kayaking, hiking (usually day trips), archery, fishing, basically if I can do it outside, I enjoy it. I'm hoping the 2011 season will get me on some longer multi-day hikes & camps.

I have always camped either in a tent or vehicle. I saw a hammock camper last year and this got me interested. No more setting up a tent, no more sleeping on the ground, no more trying to find a space, no more crawling into a little tent. The hammock seems to be the way to go for me. A few weeks ago I got a ENO single nest hammock, bug net, & slap straps as a gift. This will be used as a spare or something to throw into my kayak, camel back while biking, short hike or a Loaner.

I received a decent bonus this (last) year for allot of time & hard work in 2010. Allot of my free time was taken, and only went camping one time last year. This year however I'm going to make some time and decided to trade some of that bonus in for some new hammock gear. So far I have added a WBBB, WB Superfly, Storm Crow 3 Season Phoenix & Burrow. Now I just need to wait.

Look forward to chatting with y'all, maybe even see ya on the trail. You will also notice that I am a long winded fella.

Welcome, friend. Sounds like you have a good plan and a nice start on your gear. Where do you plan to hike next? Where have you been (in WV) that you like best?

@Iafte-saw a hanger in the Canaan Valley area up camp 70 road.

@WV-I have no idea on where my next hike will be, I'm kind of a spur of the moment person. I may plan to go hiking in the glades area then end up in Canaan or Smoke Hole. Heck I might decide to jump on google maps, find out what's 6 hrs away, then take off. I don't mind making plans, but I hate breaking plans when something comes up. As far as my favorite place, oh so many, but I would have to say it's a tie between the Canaan area & Glady out past Elkins. These two areas hold a place in my heart and memories in my mind of some very good times with my Grandparents & Parents. But I love just about anywhere.

    Thanks for the welcome also.

Edit: Forgot to mention I'm from a little town, blink and you miss Simpson. It's around the Grafton, Bridgeport, Philippi, Fairmont area. I know, that's allot of areas, but I'm kinda between them all.
