New DIY Hammock Stand

I have had this stand up for awhile and got some pics today.
Material-- 2-- 2x4x8
1-- 1/2" x 36" rebar- cut to the following-
2--5" long
2--8" long
1--10" long
1 set canopy achors.
3/8" rope (you could use amsteel) not sure on length

Drill 1/2" hole through the 2x4 on the 4" side about 4" from the end. The 5" rebar goes here.
Drill 9/16" hole in the very end of the 2x4, opposite end.

[/IMG]
[/IMG]

Drive the 8" rebar into the ground at an angle. Leave about 4" sticking out. Place the 2x4 with the hole in the end over the 8" rebar.
Tie the ridgeline in place, going over top of the 5" rebar.
Screw the anchors in the ground (4). Tie from the top of the 2x4 (above the rebar). I used a Truckers hitch.

[IMG][/IMG]

I used a continuous loop over the top of the 2x4, whoopie slings on the hammock and soft shackles to attach the two together. All were DIY.

Don't know why my first 2 pics didn't come through, so I'll try again.

Will the 2x4s fit in the canoe? That's close to what I did but used aluminum pole. I still need to take pictures but seems that there is the strange white stuff here, it doesn't snow on the coast.

Yes, tried to slip a 2x4 in and it fit, no problem. Was thinking about using a metal pole, but no sure what would work, without bending.

I'm using sch 40 aluminum pipe and haven't had any problems with bending but **** that stuff is heavy. I like the 2x4 idea and may have to try that next time. The only issue that I have is getting everything tight. Seems that I need to lay in it and then tighten everything back up. Have you hung your tarp yet?

I use the truckers hitch and can pull it down real tight. I was suprised at how tight. And yes, you can see my Kelty 9 hanging on it. Just to make sure that I didn't have any "slack" in the tarp ridgeline, I used shock cord to attach it. Any give in the ridgeline, and the tarp stays tight.

Ohh and I forgot, in the first post, I listed a 10" piece of rebar but no use. I used that to "screw" the anchors in the ground.

Nice design for the stand. Putting the 2x4"s at the angle will reduce the stress on the anchors.

That's why I placed them like that, to load the 2x4s and not so much my anchors. I think its simple, and it works.
