Check the sticky's here. Your thermarest won't be wide enough to keep your shoulders warm, though. Do a search on SPE or Segmented Pad extender... Basically a fabric cover for your thermarest that has outer pockets to slip additional insulation in... keeps your shoulders and hips warm...
I'm 220#, and sleep in a 1.1oz single layer of BWDD 1.1oz Olive ripstop. It's awesome stuff. If I had it to do again, I'd go with a double layer...

Double layer will also help with nasty mosquitoes (if they are a problem where you are or where you like to camp). My best to you and please do post pictures of your progress!! How exciting!!

I see, you all take one foam mattress, cut in half and lay it the other way to make it wider.
One last question. Which layer do you slit to slide in the mattress? The top or bottom and what is the best way to do it to maintain fabric integrity. I have been searching but I can't seem to find any pictures of the process.
Thanks, and as soon as I start sewing I will make a thread. Right now I'm in the measure twice cut once stage - because I hate ripping seams when I don't have to.

Gack.... No No No... leave a seam open. _DO NOT_ slit the layer! Lots of folks will leave a bit of the diagonal opposite seam open. Some like the opening in the middle of the edge. Personally I'm an opposite ends man myself. But what ever floats your boat. Just leave enough seam open that you can wrestle the pad in. I like to hem each layer first so the opening is hemmed as well but there are other ways of doing that.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

I hate mosquitoes so double layer is a necessity it seems - anything to keep them away.
Thanks for the links - I hadn't seen those yet. All the DIY directions I saw were for a single layer. I will read over them to see how it is done.
This is why I keep asking, I love learning all this stuff.

Since you'll need a hammock for yourself and your husband, you could buy one WBBB. It would serve as a guide for the DIY version.
