I found some down limbs in my back yard. These surely would have wrecked someones day. Luckily we rarely go into that section of the "back 40".
Please folks check for dead limbs and what not before you hook up!!

I remember a couple weeks ago someone had posted this story where a man was killed by a branch falling on his tent while he is in it. You wouldn't think about branches bring an issue while hiking, however, trees are essential for all us hangers.

Perhaps we can get a Hammock Forums patch made that says
"Look up before you hook up!"
Looks like pine. I have several large pine trees in my back yard and I will not hang from them because of the falling limb problem.
I am still 18 but with 53 years of experience !
As an assistant Scout Master with the boy scouts, we go over this with the boys. One of the requirements for advancement is for them to pick a campsite. This (dead limbs) is one of the main concerns with me.

"Back 40"???...where does that terminology come from...my brother who worked at a lodge in VT referred to their base camp as the "Back 40"...what does that mean???
that was one thing I never did untill about two years ago a limb fell out of a tree in the middle of the night and the noise was so loud it woke me up. The next morning I awoke to see that part of the branch was sticking straig up out of the ground 50 ft from where I was sleeping. Always look for widow makers now. I may have taken a picture of it. I'll have to do some searching and if I find one I'll post it

I'm drawn to the open country. Its where the world makes the most sense. When I put myself out there I always return with something new.
