    Pike's Peak

OK, so I was out in Colorado Springs this week on business and had an awesome view of Pike's Peak from my hotel room (If you head out there I highly recommend the Antlers Hilton - awesome staff and service!).

Anyway, looking at Pike's Peak for a couple of days has me jonesing for a backpacking trip to the top. Looking for info online indicates a 13-15 mile round trip to a plus 14,000 foot peak.

Anyone hammocked Barr trail before? Any input appreciated. I am thinking that it would be a great trip in June or July.

    Any thoughts?

    E

Not that trail, but here's a pic of the Warbonnet with Pike's Peak in the background!

Brian Tannehill from Yahoo hammockcamping is a hammocker who lives in Colorado Springs. Might look him up on there and shoot him an email...I know he had plans to hit Pike's Peak at some point.

    Barr Trail

Round trip is about a marathon and 7,800 ft climb.

Plenty of places to hammock below timberline.

    The outing I like is:

Stop and get a Subway sandwich,
Buy a one way ticket on the last cog train of the day,
Hike down to the Timberline Shelter,
There is adequate, but not good hanging around the Shelter,
The view of the Colorado Springs lights is SPECTACULAR,
Hike down to the Barr Camp in the morning and beg for hot water for breakfast,
    Out before noon.

My Warbonnet just arrived this week. I like how you are using it as a lounger.

Food, I was thinking of heading up to Barr Camp and hanging close by on day one, then up to the peak and back to the timberline shelter area to hang for day two, then all the way down on day three.

Looks like yours is a downhill all the way . . . where's the fun in that??

    Hey all,

I'm the Brian he speaks of. One day I would like to hit PP. Dunno if I am ready though. I'm new to hammocking, and Own a Crazy Creek, and a homemade hammock which I really like.

I'm also trying to get a trail report web site going.
    http://tannehillclan.com/coloradohikes/index.php

I cant seem to find any trail report sites that are 1. Up to date, 2. In the area I want to go. So I created my own. I host it now, if it ever gets big enough I may move it to its own little space.

    Feel free to join up.

I've never seen this web site before either, looks like it has a wealth of info!!

    Thanks,
    Brian

Investigating that website given above they mention a Green toilet I then investigated that tangent on the web They seem very interesting especially for the enviromentally friendly home builder. Seems to me that they would be more efficient than putting a septic system in for sure. Conserve a ton of water too. And just to connect this I might put one in my cabin where I sleep in my hammock. Gotta love Green especially when it's practical.
