    Mosquitoes Biting Through DL

Hey, I am going to be making another hammock and I am contemplating whether or not to put integrated bug netting on. I am already certain that if I only use one layer, the state bird of Louisiana, the mosquito, will easily be able to bite through it. I'm concerned though, that they may be able to bite through a double layer as well, seeing as the last summer hike I did they were perfectly able to bite through my SL hammock and my boxer briefs.

It was not a pretty sight and I was wondering if anyone has had mosquitoes get through a DL hammock.

If you cut the under layer larger wouldn't it hang lower looser so they couldn't reach you unless they had a 1" stinger . . .

mind you if it is the state bird of Louisiana . . .

Why not a single layer hammock and one of the bugnets that goes over the entire thing. Might be a slight overall weight penalty but atleast you'll be 100% safe from bites.

    big birds down there

I was deployed to hurricanes Ivan and Frances down in La a few years back. Slept in some marsh land down there in my HHULBP and had them skeeters all over the bug netting but had the forethought to carry the bottom cover to prevent the driaining of my blood from the bottom.
Worked great. But if you get up against the net shame on you, they will get you thruouh there for sure!!!!!

I do like the hammockbliss cocoon as if you hang low you can put all your gear in the net on the ground so your covered when in the hammock and all your gear is protected against any other ants,spiders.......

I have treated all my hammocks. Before that I use to see skeeters on the outside of the bug net on my BB. Never got bit thru the fabric and we have some salt water skeeters here that are very ambitious and when they bite you know it.
