Depending on your brand of CPAP, there will be some sort of monitoring system for compliance. Most CPAP, BIPAP, and APAP machines have a card in them that can be taken to your pulmonologist to be analyzed. If you want accurate... this is the way! Explain to your doctor that you are experimenting with different "comfortable sleeping solutions" and ask them if he/she can give you the printout report of your sleep for a 10 day period. In that 10 day period, sleep the first half of it in your bed and the second in your hammock while ALSO hooked up to your CPAP inside or outside with an extension cord. The inside data will give you somewhat of a baseline, while the outside data will tell you of any improvement. Keep in mind, these machines are quite accurate depending on the type you have. Mine gives me 12 page reports for EACH NIGHT of sleep detailing the number of times my body TRIED to snore to the actual pressure it took to foil an apnea attack. I am fortunate in that I have a friend who designs sleep centers that gave me some of the software so I don't have to go to a pulmonologist to be able to take a peek at my data. If you are in the experimenting mood, it would be worth your while to try several of your favorite sleeping situations for a few nights and note the date you slept (for later correlation with the report). This way you have more objective data regarding what lessens your obstructive sleep apnea.

That may be true of machines being made now, but it was uncommon when I got my machine a decade ago (kudos to Resmed for making a machine that runs and runs and runs -- too bad their humidifiers fail). My machine doesn't have any kind of memory card I could take to my doctor.
