Hey there folks
I have some super thick industriel garbage bags that would fit the whole length of my hammock I was thinking of using it as a vapor barrier...I'm pretty sure someone tried this just wondering how it worked out?
Thanks in advance !

In real cold temps vapor barriers work but they feel yucky.
I use them in my boots in an emergency but wouldn't make them part of my regular sleep system
Love my JRB BMB
Are you going out when it's in the teens, or below zero?
I wouldn't use a vapor barrier until it's well below freezing. There's another thread about "cold yucky back" you should have a look at. Some vendors sell a vapor barrier liner to use inside sleeping bags - in sub-zero (F) temps, to keep your body moisture from getting into the insulation and staying there. Remember that you are a source of a LOT of moisture and anything between you and the barrier will get WET.
I used a large plastic bag in 22 degree weather a month or so ago.
There is a video that shows my setup in this thread. http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=24399
Basically here is what I did:
Grand Trunk UL hung very close to the ground.
Space Blanket inside of hammock.
Ridge Rest pad on top of that.
I slept in a zero degree mummy bag.
Another space blanket hung on a ridge line. (Close as possible to reflect heat back.)
Then I used the plastic bag as a "sock" to cover the entire set up.
The sock prevented any wind from reaching me and acted as a light weight tarp in case of rain/dew.
I did not experience any issues with condensation and I slept warm all night.
Thanks everyone ...where I'm located is a bit of a toss up could be sleeping in the 2 degrees and before morning can drop to minus 5 or 10 so its a tuffy ...I'm going to try different things in the backyard before I go do ......Thanks again everyone for all your help
