What do you use for a toggle?

I have recently made myself some whoopie slings and have been using the marlinspike hitch with success using some old slacklining biners I had around. I am looking for a different option, though, because I want lighter and because the weigh of the side of the biner not hitched seems to pull the hitch to weird angles that make me nervous.

Anyone have good ideas for cheap, light toggles? I know that a lot of people use wood they find on the trail, but I want the convenience of having them with me. Thanks in advance for all the awesome ideas y'all always have.

I've used all sorts, wooden dowel works well as do decent sticks picked up on the trail. I moved onto pieces of steel golf club shaft but now I'm using ally arrow shafts.

I use DIY toggles, which I have made from old tent poles. They weigh 0.50 oz / pair without a cord. 0.63 oz / pair with a cord. They are very strong and they would not break. The material is fiberglass

I took the small aluminum tubes from my repair kit that were meant for tent pole splinting and cut them in half. They are about 3" long by 3/4" diametre.

Believe it or knot (ha!), I use a round wooden dowel 4 inches long, painted green is an acrylic finish from my daughters wooden block set! Don't laugh (it's OK to laugh, really. I did) it works great.

I bought a couple of these from REI. They're sleeves for re-enforcing/repairing damaged aluminum tent poles.

Found two ski poles at a garage sale--in free box--and cut them with tubing cutter, put them in the drill press chuck and polished them with sandpaper, steel wool, then a piece of leather. They're mirror-shiny and cool and about 3.5" long. Not UL, but L enough.

I cut up some large aluminum knitting needles (size 10, I think). Put a cord with a knot in one end and crimp, so you can attach it to your tree strap or whoopie sling.
