    Hello from the Pacific North-West!

I find it a shame that I'm the only one from the Pacific NW that I've seen on her. I figure there are plenty more, but considering we're known for camping and being green.. I feel we should really have a bigger foothold

Anyway, I am planning on backpacking across Asia and figured this would be an excellent option. Extremely light and cheap and portable, just my kind of traveling.
I plan on making all my own gear so any straight up noob advice would be greatly appreciated. I already have a hammock built from rip stop and am now looking to build a tarp. I hope to have my first winter excursion in a week so I need some shelter and something for warmth..

And lastly, it feels great to be apart of the great hammock community

    Welcome aboard!

Asia huh? Wow! Definitely give us all a trip report when you get back.

If your in the China area, look up Hawk-eye. He knows where all the good eateries are!

Have a safe & incredible journey and most of all have fun!

Welcome! DIY is a great way to fine-tune your gear to meet your needs. Trouble is, your "needs" may evolve faster than you can turn out the gear. Nonetheless, go for it!

You'll find quite a few people from the Northwest on the Hammock Forums maps. Trouble is, only so many icons will fit on a single map page, so you need to look at all six pages to see them all.

Welcome aboard. Should be able to get fabrics pretty fast from Seattle Fabrics. Check out their silnylon for your tarp. Kind of slippery to work with but you'll be ok.

Where do you plan to go? I've been to Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, and Japan extensively. I'd like to throw in my two cents' worth if you have a tentative route.

    Hey Cralls,

I live in Eugene. There has been at least one Oregon hang although I missed it. I can lend you a tarp if needed or if all else fails and you need something quick go down to harbor freight and pick up a 10' X 12' for $4.99 and use that for your trip.
