going through my email folders i came across these pictures a friend of mine sent me months ago from a camping trip we took in february. We had all had caught a pretty bad case of cabin fever and were probably in dire need of a crusade of manliness to the motherland of all men, the wilderness. It was chilly but we had one heck of a great time.
A couple of my buddies were backpacking with hammocks for the first time on my assurance of comfort so it was a learning experience for all. Everyone managed to stay warm. they both slept on thermarest pads and sleeping bags. I had my wally world 1/1 UQ and 30 deg bag. Temps got down to low thirties and I wouldnt be surprised if humidity was 100% as we camped Griswald-style right at the base of the falls. everyone woke up content and i could not have been more content with wool socks, thermals, hoodie, and fleece hat.
Everyone over loaded and we woke up in a tourist trap but the views were spectacular and the memories unforgettable. we had a blast and returned home with just a bit more hair on our city slicker chests.

it started with a great early afternoon hike in and we couldnt have asked for a better day in february. High in the low 50s not a cloud in the sky.
definitely a bit of moderately technical singletrack, this being lower on the spectrum, but manageable for most everyone.

arrived at camp as the sun is heading behind the edge of the canyon. it got dark and cold rather quickly.
we setup camp with the quickness. yard tarps all around- theyre huge in europe. note: one non-believer of the way. he has since renounced his old ways
everyone decided to bring whiskey for the group and neglected to alert each other so we had plenty to go around.
Damp mornings meant a brisk scramble from warm cocoon to the top of the falls for some solar heating.
