I think its fabulous! And you have plenty of time to knock out another one before Christmas. You already know how it goes together, so that cuts out a lot of the build time.

I'm with your wife as for as it looks right now. BUT like the rest of the ladies have said, it just isn't finished yet. Swags and or netting would look great. Maybe paint the uprights like a tree and wrap vines around the lower portion and swags for the rest of it.

That is a smile of love there. Nothing like it in the world. Nice job.

Nice job! Turn that "barn" into a girly showcase with some paint and frilly drapes to cover the framework. And maybe a mobile, too

Know this is an old thread, but spotted it a few weeks back and showed my daughter who is just itching for me to set her hammock up in her bedroom, so I'm after some advice.

I'm a newbie to hanging and have only done a few day hangs in our local woods and 1 overnight in the back garden with my daughter. Our hammocks were made for us by a friend and we use webbing and amsteel whoopie slings to hang (again all brilliantly made for us - thanks Colin :-) ).

But in a few weeks her new 4 post bed will arrive and I was wondering if you think I could apply a similar thing as Bradley to the 2 diagonal posts?

If yes, do you reckon I'll need to strengthen the posts?- she is very, very light for an 8yr old
And what kind of hooks will I need?
Also wondering if I'll need to shorten the whoopie sling or am I better using something else to join the hammock to the hook?

It is a kids bed, beech and has 4 posts joined at the top and I reckon I've enough width diagonally for the hang.

Any and all advice very, very welcome.

It's unlikely the bedposts will be strong enough to handle the live loads associated with a kid's rough housing and the inevitable mishaps that occur. I'm a father, and I wouldn't do it. Build dedicated STRONG anchor points in the room if you want to hang any hammocks. Better safe than sorry...

I build dedicated hammock hanging points into my daughetr's playhouse strong enough to hold me, an average-weight adult male. With the right hardware (1/4" or thicker steel books or eyes) and good bracing, 2x4 lumber can be sufficient (although 2x6 or 4x4 provides extra sturdiness depending on your design).

You may want to swap with our whoopie slings out to minimize the distance your hammock must span indoors. Continuous loops at the end of the hammock may be all you need, or you can make up some DIY dog bones (inexpensive and easy) to the perfect length you need. If you are able to design the span to the precise length of your hammock body, it's possible to build a rigid lumber frame with fixed anchors that provid the perfect say for the hammock and obviate any structural ridge line.

    Good luck.

Brilliant - thank kitsapcowboy... was kinda hoping it could be a goer, but knew it was a long shot... ah well... But huge thanks for the info re: the hardware to get her setup in her room and the info re: the dog bones... thanks again. Will see how I get on.

that is awesome. My little monkey always wants to hang in my hammocks so I had to hook her up. from a few years ago.

Brilliant - she looks sooo comfy. My wee one loves hanging, so much so that she is being moved to a bigger room so I can hang the hammock for her. But she also wants to be a princess, hence the 4 post bed with curtains If I can just get the 2 to go together somehow, would be fab! But will wait till I get the bed and her furniture in and then see about getting some hooks up. And odds are, I'll be back asking a 100 questions.... lol.

A hammock & underquilt in whatever colors she considers princessy, one of these:

...and some strategically placed 'fairy' lights. Done!
