VIDEO: Prototype Tarp Sock form Molly Mac Gear

Here is a sneak peak at the Tarp Sock we're testing. The shape of the tarp is not final, but the rest is based on the Molly Mac Gear IX Hammock Sock. This prototype is made with silnylon and Epic fabric. Epic is waterproof and breathable, and is used for the sock components. Silnylon is used for the tarp component.

It's half an Ubertarp! I knew my idea would catch on someday! Of course yours is MUCH better though out and executed; mine just turned into a large pile of Nylon and, eventually, stuff sacks!

    Yours looks great!

so is there any issue being in contact with the epic fabric during inclement weather? i imagine you have already addressed this but it just goes against my nature
    ...in it for pics.

    First off, awesome idea!
A question though: Why do you need the SEEP/curtain? That side should be the same as if it was under a full size tarp. If it's for heat retention, then shouldn't plain nylon be fine? I'm sure you have a good reason for it, I'm just curious.

It's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

Yes, the SEEP curtain is for heat retention, and plain nylon would work just fine. I had just enough Epic to make the curtain, and I wanted to find out how it breathes.

IMHO, I could make the tarp and the exposed side of the sock using silnylon (one more panel than I did with the prototype), and use breathable nylon for the curtain, bottom and the protected side. There is no need for Epic at all.

Your UQ will be in contact with it. Is that a problem? Does it leak when touched, like oiled cotton? I don't know much about Epic.

It is fascinating, eh? I need to learn what distinct advantage it has over a small tarp and normal sock. I have a feeling it will perform very well in the worst conditions, and will be inconveniently short of headroom at other times.

Thank you! Now I need to use it, and see if it is practical.

Now it makes sense Mac! Just could not make a mental pic. One big advantage would be the ability to shuck the whole thing into "reptile tubes" for easy set up and take down. Then there is the lighter weight insulation properties. One hitch for us Tribe members would be how to set up the WBBB side tieouts with this? Prolly would just have to lay the skeeter net over and not use tie outs at all (or get a Traveler).
