    I've been using a canvas tipi tent that's still going strong after many outings and I may just take it along just in case. I don't mind the weight as long as it's reasonable and yeah canvas is tough notch stuff, but I can't sew to save my life.

    Instead of carrying a canvas tarp, how about carrying 2 nylon tarps? They would pack smaller and still weigh less than than the canvas one.

    If you need a canvas tarp, I could make you one out of about a 6.5oz boat cover material. PM me if your interested.
