    New Tarp

So my sister, after hearing me talk about making my own hammocks and other gear and how I do it all with $1 walmart fabric. She stopped in to get stuff so she could make a quilt, yes, a quilt quilt not an under quilt, and was getting a yard of this, 2 yards of that and she found some DWR ripstop and took that up also, the lady asked how much and she said "All of it". The lady looked at her funny and she just said "It's for my brother, don't ask."

I had off Friday and was home with the boys and made this over the weekend. It's staked right to the ground right now so...

12 1/2 feet long and 10 feet wide. With my hammock centered I get about 1 1/2 feet extra on each end. will go up to almost 2 feet once I install my ridgeline. It rained all day while I was at work and when I took it down one shake got all the water off it.

Did you mean silnylon? DWR ripstop is not waterproof...

Good lookin' tarp. I'm (eventually) going to make a bigger tarp so I can fit my wife and me under it with extra room. I was considering the 10x12 size like you made...let us all know how that size works out for you!

What do you all mean by DWR ripstop? Mule

Ripstop is how the material is made - it has little squares on it that look like a grid. The lines are thicker threads, so any rips will stop at the grid and not spread.

DWR is a treatment added to some fabrics - it's wind and water resistant. It's breathable, so good for quilts and hammocks. DWR treatment is often applied to ripstop fabrics.

Silnylon is impregnated with silicone and does not pass wind or water. It's good for tarps. Silnylon is always ripstop as far as I know.

No problem - everybody starts learning sometime. At least the smart ones do.
